Kupuna Caucus

The Kupuna Caucus at the Hawaii State Legislature convenes to introduce and advocate for legislation that helps Hawaii's seniors. The caucus regularly meets on the first Friday of each month at 2pm, though this is subject to change during legislative session. Making an Appropriation for the Office of Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program

The purpose of this Act is to:

  1. Establish and fund five permanent long-term care ombudsman program specialist positions within the office of the long-term care ombudsman: one position for the city and county of Honolulu, one for the county of Maui, two for the county of Hawaii, and one for the county of Kauai
  2. Require the long-term care ombudsman program specialists to work under the supervision of the long-term care ombudsman to achieve the goals of the long-term care ombudsman program, as mandated by the United States Administration on Aging through the Older Americans Act

Relating to the Hawaii State Health Insurance Assistance Program

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to SHIP to expand the program by:

  1. Contracting with third party service providers and staffing consultants
  2. Recruiting more volunteers

Relating to Health

The purpose of this Act is to amend the Our Care, Our Choice Act to:

  1. Authorize advanced practice registered nurses, in addition to physicians, to practice medical aid in dying in accordance with their scope of practice and prescribing authority
  2. Authorize psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners and clinic nurse specialists, in addition to psychiatrists, psychologists, and clinical social workers, to provide counseling to a qualified patient
  3. Reduce the mandatory waiting period between oral requests from twenty days to fifteen days
  4. Provide an expedited pathway for those terminally ill individuals not expected to survive the mandatory waiting period

Relating to Homelessness

The purpose of this Act is to establish the long-term rental assistance pilot program for kupuna.

Relating to Driver’s Licenses

The purpose of this Act is to amend §286-106 Expiration of Licenses
